Concerts and special performances in July are at a fever pitch. Check out this carefully curated list of shows and special events to keep your summer appropriately sizzling, all courtesy of Dallas high-rise expert Sue Krider. With interesting shades of folk, alt-country and punk mixed in his music, English singer-songwriter Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls plays the House of Blues on July 1. The next night at the same venue catch Motion City Soundtrack, a talented rock ensemble from Minneapolis that gained a solid following via their appearances on various Warped Tours.

After the July 4 festivities are over, sit under the stars and exhale. Pop icon Mandy Moore She gained traction as a pop singer on the strength of “Candy,” her first hit, followed by more music and roles in numerous movies and TV shows including “This is Us” on NBC. Moore is back on the concert trail and scheduled to perform outdoors at Annette Strauss Square on July 6.

Two days later on July 8, Parker McCollum plays the Dos Equis Pavilion at Fair Park.  As one of the freshest faces in country music, the singer-songwriter from Conroe packs a punch with his original, country radio friendly songs (“To Be Loved By You.”).

On July 15, the night air rocks with a huge summer double bill at Dos Equis Pavilion. Hall of Fame musicians Santana, and Earth, Wind & Fire are on a summer tour playing from deep catalogs of songs like “Black Magic Woman,” “Evil Ways,” “September,” “Shining Star,” and many more


Brandi Carlile’s career is skyrocketing. She’s among the biggest names in music these days, a singer-songwriter who writes socially relevant, soulful songs that turn into memorable hits including “The Joke,” and “Right on Time.” Catch her on July 16 at Dos Equis Pavilion. 

July 20 through August 7, bring the kids and relive the hit motion picture Frozen in all its glory as a stage production from Broadway Dallas (formerly the Dallas Summer Musicals) in the Music Hall at Fair Park. The unforgettable Disney theatrical experience is filled with special effects, stunning sets and costumes, and powerhouse performances … spectacular, pure Broadway joy. 

Hilarious Mexican comedian/voice-actor/musician Franco Escamilla founded the popular La Diablo Squad (The Devil Squad). His last world tour sold out dates in London, Paris, Tokyo, and more. Join him on July 23 at Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie.

The Prom “Makes you believe in musical comedy again,” says The New York Times. A show about big Broadway stars, a small town, and the love that unites them. It’s at the Winspear Opera House July 26-31 

On July 30 mega-watt country superstar Garth Brooks has a concert scheduled AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Electrifying, explosive, and mesmerizing, country’s biggest musical force returns for another stop on his Stadium Tour, this time at Jerry World. 

Finally, if you’ve never seen them, don’t miss Dude Perfect, July 31 at the American Airlines Center. These Texas college buds expanded the trick shots they perfected at Texas A&M into a wildly successful business that has them selling out arenas all over the U.S.

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the Bard in Big D of the beloved Shakespeare Dallas. Celebrate their first fifty years with productions of The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre through July 23.

The Dallas Contemporary has a series must-see exhibitions scheduled now through August 21 including Joseph Havel: Parrot Architecture; Natalie Wadlington, who makes her institutional debut; and Borna Sammak, with “America … Nice Place.” The New York artist has distinguished himself as one of the most innovative and culturally critical artists of his generation. The current exhibition also features Lonnie Holley, a gifted self-taught artist from the Deep South.

The Outlaw Music Festival is July 2 at the Dos Equis Pavilion. Willie Nelson and Family headline the concert with guests Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Brothers Osborne, Charley Crockett, Steve Earle, and Allison Russell.

He’s toured with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (two years with each) and produced albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark. Catch Darrell Scott, a fantastic talent, performing at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff on July 3.

The Secret Comedy of Women is July 6-31 at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson. It’s a laugh out loud immersive theatrical triumph about the challenges of womanhood from boys to bras, pantyhose to menopause and more, celebrate the journey.

The eight-time Grammy winning musician Stephen Marley is the talented son of the late Hall of Fame Jamaican reggae artist Bob Marley. He’s appearing July 13 at Amplified Live.

The Elevator Project is a collection of excellent performances played in smaller venues. July 14-16 see Rhythm and Rhapsody at Hamon Hall in the Winspear Opera House. Every story has rhythm, and every rhythm tells a story in the unique new production that shows what happens when the two lanes intersect … and inventively become one.

His definitive mark on rock and British Blues is indelible. As a founding member of the seminal band Traffic, Dave Mason was unforgettable, and worth an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He performs classic hits like “We Just Disagree” and “Feelin’ Alright?” July 15 at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff.

A celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as “relationships” in a splendid production of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at the Art Centre Theater in Plano on July 15-24.

Billy Howerdel is prolific rock artist, who founded the bands A Perfect Circle and Ashes Divide and continues perform as a solo act. He’s schedule for a show on July 16 at the Echo Lounge and Music Hall.

Dino Safari is an interactive, guided experience that features dozens of life-sized animatronic dinosaurs set in scenes straight from the Jurassic age at the Dallas Zoo, now through September 5.

A trio of Texas-based bands, Clutch Cargo, Said the People, She Hath Horns, converge July 17 on the Deep Ellum Art Company brings styles ranging from eclectic to high energy rock, blues, and more.

Drawing from the Masters, a wonderful program at the Meadows Museum on the SMU campus July 17, and August 21. Bring your sketchpad and enjoy an afternoon of informal drawing instruction as artist Ian O’Brien tours first come/first serve participants through the Museum’s galleries.

Train’s quirky “Hey Soul Sister,” and poignant “Drops of Jupiter” made the pop/rock group a huge draw on the summer concert circuit. The California pop band is joined by folk artist Jewel, and Blues Traveler on July 20 at Dos Equis Pavilion.

Sizzling solos, string duos and trios, quartets, quintets and other configurations, Serenata Strings has performed at over 1,000 events locally. Catch them as part of the summer PNC Patio Sessions at Sammons Park on July 21.

Need a good laugh? Former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” comic actor Tracy Morgan is still a riot with a deep bag of outstanding stand-up material. He performs at Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie on July 22.

Indian singer-songwriter, actor/producer, and television host Diljit Dosanjh has worked successfully in Punjabi and Hindi cinema. An international talent, on July 22 he’ll perform at the American Airlines Center

Looking for a good old fashioned summertime sizzler? How about a big rock and roll show with 1980s mainstays Styx (“Come Sail Away,” “Too Music Time on My Hands”) REO Speedwagon, and Loverboy on July 23 at Dos Equis Pavilion. Classic rock lives!

Howard Jones’ biggest hits include “What is Love,” and “Things Can Only Get Better.” He’s now on tour with former Ultravox front man Midge Ure, performing July 27 at Amplified Live.

On July 27 at the House of Blues, see Enanitos Verdes, a terrific rock trio from Argentina (their name means “little green men”) that’s has been together since the late 1970s.

The Almost Brothers play the Granada Theater on July 29. The progressive ensemble is a special tribute act faithfully saluting the eternal music of the unforgettable Allman Brothers Band.

The movie Encanto was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The movie will be shown on a big screen, while family audiences singalong to the award-winning soundtrack, July 29 at Dos Equis Pavilion. The same evening, controversial talk show host Joe Rogan appears at the Majestic Theatre.

July 29-30 Andy Woodhull is at Hyena’s. A seasoned performer, in 2014, he was the first comedian to make his network television debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” On July 20-31, Adele Givens is at the Improv in Addison. The comedic actress began her career in the 1980s and has since enjoyed roles in TV series including “The Hughleys,” “Moesha,” “The Parkers” and more.

The month closes with Australian soft rockers the Little River Band. They’ve been around for years, performing radio hits such as “Help Is On the Way,” “Happy Anniversary,” and “Reminiscing,” always in tight harmony. They’re at Annette Strauss Square, under the stars, on July 30. Plus … two moms. Not married (Actually, married. Just not to each other). Four kids. Two husbands. Six dogs. Minimally, two glasses of wine and lots of laughs. Meet IMOMSOHARD, also on July 30 at the Majestic.
