Spotlights of Dallas

Historic Significance

Dallas was originally inhabited by various indigenous populations before the Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819 officially places the future location of Dallas firmly within the Spanish Territory of New Spain. The area remained under Spanish rule until 1821, which is when Mexico declared independence from Spain. In 1836, the Republic of Texas gained independence from Mexico to become a distinct nation. The construction of railroads helped make Dallas a bustling business and trading center throughout much of the 19th century and helped fuel its growth. It evolved into an industrial city during the early 20th century, attracting even more residents.

As for higher education, colleges and universities in Dallas city limits include University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, The University of North Texas at Dallas, Dallas Baptist University, and more.

Neighborhoods & Condos

Dallas has four distinct neighborhoods: Central Dallas, which is anchored by downtown; East Dallas, which is home to Deep Ellum and the Lakewood neighborhood; Midtown Dallas, which is home to North Park Mall; and South Dallas, which is home to the Cedars and Fair Park. Within these neighborhoods are numerous high rise condo buildings. But the largest concentration of Dallas high rise condos are located near Downtown Dallas in the neighborhoods of Turtle Creek, Uptown, Downtown, and Highland Park.
