Uptown Dallas: An Urban Oasis

One of Dallas' oldest neighborhoods, Uptown Dallas was revitalized in the early 1990s with the opening of The West Village.  The urban area is now home to shops, restaurants, parkland, historic sites, and thousands of urban dwellers. When you add historic charm and a thriving local economy, it's easy to see why residents love living in Uptown Dallas.

Adjacent to and north of downtown Dallas, the Dallas Uptown neighborhood includes the streets Cole, Lemmon, Howell, Routh and Thomas, all names of former landowners in the neighborhood. Within Uptown, you can find residential options from affordable apartments and townhomes to luxurious condominiums and historic single-family homes.

Spotlights of Uptown Dallas

A Brief History of Uptown

20 years ago, "Uptown" did not exist. In 1993, one of the first public improvement districts in the region was formed to unlock the development potential of the Uptown Dallas area. By adding a small tax to every property owner in this community, the Uptown PID was able to enhance public safety and security, improve public infrastructures, maintain common areas and well-lit streets, create pedestrian amenities and linkages that make Uptown one of the most desirable places in Dallas. Thanks to these improvements, the Uptown community continues to attract more and more businesses and residents every year.

Public Transportation

If you prefer the comfort of private or public transportation, fear not. Uptown has easy access to U.S. 75 and Spur 355, and offers transportation options including the McKinney Avenue Transport Authority (the M-line - it's free!), the DART Light rail, and even charming pedicab rides around the city.

Shopping & Dining

Uptown is one of the most pedestrian-friendly areas in all of Texas. Everything from shopping and dining establishments to cultural and recreational facilities are only steps away from your doorstep. As this vibrant urban community continues to develop, increasingly pedestrian culture continues to thrive.
