In DFW, shopping, eating, and imbibing is a full contact sport. Dallas has some of the most interesting, and enviable boutiques, restaurants, and bars anywhere in America. Lest we forget, bon appetit named Big D their 2019 Restaurant City of the Year.

Our nightlife is also second to none with many, many options to sample. With that in mind, we assembled a list of recently opened examples from eat category that will tickle your fancy, no matter what the mood.

Providing information to my clients and sending them off to a new spot for a great time is the best feeling of all. See my special list of ideas designed to make your days and nights in Big D memorable. Something tells me you’re going to like what you see.

Tex-Mex may be Dallas’s favorite flavor. With that in mind, we invite you to step inside Escondido. For lunch, happy hour, weekend brunch and dinner, the new spot at (5959 Royal Lane) is a breath of fresh air. After opening in November 2022, the colorful restaurant has already distinguished itself among local foodies with quality reviews. There is indoors as well as outdoors dining options available, plenty of parking and is easily accessible off Preston Road. Cocktails are yummy, but the food – brisket, Ancho Butter Fajitas, salads, mouthwatering steaks, and the standards are wonderful. https://www.escondidodallas.com

Another new restaurant to fall in love with is Pizzana (3219 Knox Street). This recent “best in dough” option (Hey, it is pizza after all) is a California kick. With several locations in Los Angeles, the company has ventured east to Dallas and the results are stellar. Pizzana’s turn on the Italian staple takes a conscious left coast twist with a dedication to locally sourced ingredients, and a special “slow dough” that’s carefully prepared with organic, stone ground creating a sturdy, yet light, delicious crust. There are also wood fired veggies, salads, and antipasti favorites. Ciao! https://pizzana.com

Maybe all you need is a special setting for a special toast. Try Coupe, a French-inspired champagne bar with Texas accents that opened at the end of 2022 in the tony Shops of Highland Park (4324 Oak Lawn Avenue). Upscale, contemporary, and sparkling, the venue has a certain sophistication about it with beautiful surroundings, and lively, yet appropriate music (French pop, vintage soul, and some glam rock) in the air. Food critics call it the perfect destination for celebrating everything from big occasions to life’s lovely little moments, all over champagnes and sparkling wines sourced from France and here in Texas. Coupe offers more 15 champagnes and sparkling wines by the glass, accented by an interesting small bites menu. There are 50 labels by the bottle including Perrier-Jouët, Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, Pol Roger, and Ruinart, plus sparkling area wines from William Chris in Hye, Texas.

Another relatively new spot destined for success is 55 Seventy, a cellar and tasting room off Preston Road (6130 Berkshire Lane). The building’s façade has been redone and it’s lovely, speaking to the mission as an upscale venue catering to the available audience in the Park Cities. Comfortable, bright, approachable, community-minded, and conveniently located the Preston Center. There is a dress code in the club that requires a membership (which comes in different levels). Check out the website for all the specifics. https://www.55seventy.com/faq

Teressa Foglia is a pop-up stop for discriminating tastes (is there any other kind?) at Highland Park Village. Straw, felt, made to order and more, customized hats come in various shapes, sizes, textures, and styles. “A life well-lived in a hat well-travelled,” as they say, makes a wonderfully bold fashion statement. Celebrities such as country music queen Carrie Underwood and “Southern Charm” star Naomie Olindo have been spotted in Teressa Foglia fashions and are said to be big fans (Carrie reportedly prefers western). The current pop-up is supposed to end at the close of January, however you never know with such scheduling. However, so far, it’s been a colossal hit with area fashionistas. https://teressafoglia.com

Then there is another cool new favorite, gorjana. It’s like a fresh ray of sunshine in West Village (3699 McKinney Avenue); warm, welcoming, and mega inviting. The company says their Laguna Beach-inspired stores are awash in an impressive variety of coastal design elements, all designed to reflect a deep affection for their native California. Founded in 2004 in a small apartment, the founders grew the jewelry company into what it is today. gorjana developed and expanded their first fine jewelry collection, comprised of timeless favorites featuring a range of materials: classic diamonds, 14K gold, sapphires, turquoise, opals, topaz, and other precious gemstones. They continue to meet customers where they are, opening retail stores nationwide, including New York, and recently in Dallas. Connect with gorjana stylists and experience their newest collections close up and in person. Breathe in the beauty of gorjana.
