Let’s take a look at cool stuff happening in Dallas’s Uptown district, and a few ultra-cool adjacencies for good measure. Big D is well known for its deep variety of excellent restaurants. In fact, in 2019 Bon Appetit named Dallas its restaurant city of the year. Let’s nosh!

A fairly new addition in West Villageis Hugo’s Invitados. Tequila connoisseurs are celebrating the 12-person tasting table for cuisine, and craft cocktails, made with organic, local, sustainable ingredients. And just in case you are wondering, the menu is almost entirely gluten-free with options for most dietary needs.

Uptownis a special place to enjoy loads of interesting cuisine options, a steady stream of recreational activities in places such as the city’s favorite urban oasis Klyde Warren Park, plus access to the hiking/jogging thoroughfare known as the Katy Trail, and tons of other unique experiences all centered around one of Dallas’s most walkable neighborhoods.

Just around the corner in DowntownDallas, the city council is making waves. They recently approved an economic development zone that will be the site of a pair of skyscrapers, one of which is reported to become the tallest in town … and it’s reportedly massive. The 80-story structure, and mixed-use development, were both approved on June 22, and it appears to be a go. When complete it should top the current tallest downtown structure by eight floors. According to the plans presented, the tower will be located on about 11 acres at 2323 North Field Street. The second skyscraper is slated as a 38-story-high “mixed-use” building, constructed on nearly two acres on the corner of South Akard and Canton Streets. How about a morning cup of mud? One of East Dallas’s favorite coffee shops (and roasters) is expanding into Uptown. White Rock Coffee will open a new location at the Rosewood Court tower sometime this fall. It should mix well sandwiched between bustling areas such as Harwood District, Victory Park, the Dallas Arts District, and One Arts

Another significant development in Uptown involves a serious retail landmark: Stanley Korshak announced it will continue in its location as the original retail anchor in The Crescent. The venerable luxury design house has anchored the McKinney Avenue area hotel complex’s most prestigious retail space since opening in 1986. The Crescent is a local treasure, home to the lovely Sixty Vines, with dozens of wines on tap, and the elegant, renowned Japanese restaurant, Nobu.

Also, in the Uptown area is a restaurant previously planted in West Village for 20 years. Earlier this year, it gave way to one of the area’s most popular restaurants, Mi Cocina. In the new spot, the Tex-Mex staple replaces another one, the former Del Frisco’s Grille, which has moved to a different location. The Uptown Mi Cocina features the largest patio among the company’s twenty-two locations; portions are covered and can be enclosed and nicely cooled during blistering summer temps.

Don’t miss Seis Segundos, a cool second-story bar above Mi Cocina. It has a separate menu, refreshing cold-pressed cocktails, and tasty food options including a variety of queso selections delicious quesadillas, and fashionable hard-shell mini tacos.

The Uptown location coexists nicely with Mi Cocina on the Park at Klyde Warren Park (2000 Woodall Rodgers Freeway) in a location formerly occupied by Savor. It opened in October 2021.

Boutiques and shopping abound in West Village, with its estimated 275,000 square feet of retail space, more than 100 stores, designer shops, eateries, and much more. Nicole Kwon Concept Store has curated collections from illustrious designers from around the world. There are hundreds of fragrances to choose from at The Scent Room, and for the guys, men’s clothing brand Rye 51 is a contemporary treat.
